1597 — Abū Bakr ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī narrated to us. He said: Zayd ibn Akhzam narrated to us. He said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Dāwūd narrated to us. He said: I heard al-Aʿmash, ⦗2105⦘ who narrated from Salama ibn Kuhayl, from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Sabʿ, who said: I heard ʿAlī, may Allah be pleased with him, say from the pulpit, “Why are we waiting for the most wretched man? The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—gave me this solemn assurance: ‘This [beard] will surely be dyed with blood from this [head].’” They said, “Tell us who will kill you so that we may annihilate his kin.” He replied, “I adjure by Allah that no man kill anyone other than my killer on my account.” And he mentioned the hadith.
