1593 — Ahmad ibn Yahyā al-Hulwānī narrated to us: Yahyā ibn Yūsuf ⦗2101⦘ al-Zimmī narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Salama narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishāq, from Yazīd ibn Muhammad ibn Khuthaym, from Muhammad ibn Ka‘b al-Qurazī, who said: Abū Yazīd ibn ⦗2102⦘ Khuthaym narrated to me, from Ammār ibn Yāsir, who said:

Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—and I were companions during the Expedition of al-Ushayra. We stopped at a place and saw some men of Banū Mudlij tending their date palms. I said to him, “Why do we not go over to these men and watch how they work?” So we went to them and watched them for a while. Then drowsiness overcame us, so we made our way to a cluster of palm trees and slept beneath it on fine, dusty ground.

None other than the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—awakened us. He went over to Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—and nudged him with his foot, for we had become covered in that dust. He said, “Get up! Shall I tell you who the two most wretched men are? The ruddy man of Thamūd who hamstrung the she-camel, and the man who will strike you here”—and he pointed to the side of his head—“causing this to be drenched with its blood.” He then took hold of his beard.
