Chapter: The Killing of the Commander of the Faithful, Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—and the Misery That Allah, the Generous, Has Prepared for His Killer in This World and the Hereafter
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—said: The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—once said while he was on Mount Hira, when the mountain began to shake: “Stand firm, Hira! Upon you are none but a prophet, a man of perfect truthfulness, and a martyr.” Upon it were the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—Abū Bakr, Umar, Uthmān, Alī, Talha, al-Zubayr, and all the others included in the aforementioned, well-known hadith. The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—thereby foretold that they would be martyrs. Umar—may Allah be pleased with him—was killed as a martyr; Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—was killed as a martyr; and Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—was killed as a martyr. May Allah curse the killer of Alī ibn Abī Tālib and disgrace him in this world and the Hereafter.
The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—had informed Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him: “You will be appointed as a successor, and you will be killed.” What the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said must inevitably come to pass; it cannot but come to pass. Such martyrdom grants them—may Allah be pleased with them—higher degrees with their Lord, Mighty and Majestic, increasing their merit beyond the merit they already possessed, as an honor bestowed upon them by Him. May Allah be pleased with them.
