1587 — Ibn Abī Dāwūd also narrated to us; he said: Sulaymān ibn Dāwūd al-Mahrī narrated to us; he said: Abd Allah ibn Wahb narrated to us; he said: Abū Sakhr narrated to us, from Abū Muāwiya al-Bajalī, from Saīd ibn Jubayr, from Abū al-Sahbā, from Amra al-Hamdāniyya, who said:

Umm Salama asked me, “Are you Amra?”

She said: I replied, “Yes, Mother. Will you not tell me about this man who was struck down in our midst, for some love him and others do not?”

Umm Salama replied, “Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed:

‘Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O people of the Household, and to purify you completely.’ [Al-Ahzāb: 33]

No one was in the house except Gabriel, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—Alī, Fātima, al-Hasan, al-Husayn—may Allah be pleased with them—and me. I asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, am I one of the people of the Household?’ He replied, ‘You are one of my righteous wives.’”

Umm Salama then said, “O Amra, had he said, ‘Yes,’ it would have been dearer to me than everything upon which the sun rises and sets.”
