1566 — Abu Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Nājiya narrated to us. He said: ⦗2080⦘ Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Ju'fī narrated to us. He said: Hafs ibn Ghiyāth narrated to us, from Ash'ath, from Ibn Sīrīn, from Abīda al-Salmānī, who said:
I was present with Ali—may Allah be pleased with him—at al-Nahr (the Canal). When the people of al-Nahr had been killed, he said, “Among them is a man with a stunted hand—or a small, breast-like hand, or an incompletely formed hand. Search for him.” They searched but could not find him. He then said, “Search for him.” They searched but could not find him. He then told them, “Search for him.” They searched and found him in a depression, with the slain lying on top of him.
Abīda said: When his hand was pulled out, it extended until it was as long as his other hand; when released, it retracted, and it contained no bone. Ali—may Allah be pleased with him—then said, “Were it not that you might become conceited, I would tell you what Allah—Mighty and Majestic—had promised concerning this band whom I killed, as conveyed through Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.”
Abīda asked him, “Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace?” He replied, “Yes, by the Lord of the Kaaba!”—repeating it twice.
