1559 — Abū Muhammad Ibn Sā‘id also related to us, saying: al-Husayn ibn Abī Zayd al-Dabbāgh related to us, saying: Ali ibn Zayd al-Sudā‘ī related to us, saying: Abū Sa‘d al-Baqqāl—namely, Sa‘īd ibn al-Marzubān, as Ibn Sā‘id had informed us in an earlier hadith—related to us, from Abū Mihjan, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him—said: “The member of this nation most compassionate toward it is Abū Bakr al-Siddīq; the strongest of them in upholding the command of Allah—Mighty and Majestic—is Umar; the most modest among them is Uthmān; the most knowledgeable among them concerning judgment is Ali ibn Abī Tālib; and the most knowledgeable among them in calculating the prescribed shares of inheritance is Zayd ibn Thābit.” He then mentioned the rest of the hadith.
