1553 — Abū Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Nājiya also informed us, saying: Abd Allah ibn Umar al-Kūfī, Abū Abd al-Rahmān, related to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Fudayl related to us, from Muslim al-Awar, from Abd al-Rahmān ibn Abī Laylā, who said: Ali—may Allah be pleased with him—said: The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—sent me to Yemen to judge between its people. I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I do not know how to judge well.” He placed his hand upon my chest and said, “O Allah, teach him how to judge.” Then he said, “Teach them the religious laws and the sunnahs, and forbid them to prepare drinks in gourd vessels, green earthenware jars, hollowed palm-trunk vessels, and pitch-coated vessels.”
