1545 — Abū al-Abbās Ahmad ibn Mūsā ibn Zanjawayh al-Qattān informed us, saying: Abd Allah ibn Umar ibn Abān narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Karīm ibn Hilāl narrated to us, from Aslam al-Makkī, who said: Abū al-Tufayl informed me, saying: Ali ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—took me by the hand at this very place and said to me: “O Abū al-Tufayl, even if I were to strike a believer on the nose with a stick, he would never hate me. Allah—Majestic is His Glory—has bound the believers by covenant to love me and the hypocrites by covenant to hate me. Thus, no believer will ever hate me, and no hypocrite will ever love me.”
