1540 — Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dāwud also narrated to us, saying: al-Hasan ibn Mudrik al-Shaybānī narrated to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Hammād narrated to me, saying: Abū Awāna narrated to us from Atā ibn al-Sāʾib, who said: I met a grandson of Ubāda ibn al-Sāmit, and he said: “If you see a man who hates Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—then know that he is of Jewish origin.” He then said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather, Ubāda ibn al-Sāmit, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him—in a garden belonging to the family of so-and-so. He said: “A man from the people of Paradise will now come to you from this direction.” Abū Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—then came. He then said: “A man from the people of Paradise will now come to you from this direction.” Umar—may Allah be pleased with him—then came and sat down. He then said: “A man from the people of Paradise will now come to you. O Allah, let him be Alī! O Allah, let him be Alī! O Allah, let him be Alī!” Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—then came and sat down.
