1514 — Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dāwūd also narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Sinān al-Qattān narrated to us, saying: Abū Ahmad al-Zubayrī narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Malik ibn Humayd ibn Abī Ghaniya narrated to us, saying: Al-Hakam ibn Utayba narrated to us, from Saīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbās, who said: Burayda narrated to me, saying: The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—sent me to Yemen with Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—and I experienced some harshness from him. When I returned to the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—I complained to him about Alī. Burayda said: The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—raised his head and said, “Do I not have a greater claim over the believers than they have over themselves?” I replied, “Indeed you do.” He said, “Then whoever has me as his ally has Alī as his ally.”
