1504 – Abū Muhammad ʿAbd Allah ibn Nājiya narrated to us, saying: Wahb ibn Baqiyya al-Wāsitī narrated to us, saying: Khālid ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Wāsitī informed us, from al-Ajlah ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Abī al-Hudhayl al-Kindī, from Habīb ibn Abī Thābit, from ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn al-Baylamānī, who said: I heard Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqās say: Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—say the following after he had appointed ʿAlī—may Allah be pleased with him—over Medina during the expedition to Tabuk. ʿAlī—may Allah be pleased with him—went out to see him off. He continued: ʿAlī went out, and when the Messenger of Allah saw his distress, he said: “Would you not be pleased to ⦗2037⦘ hold the same standing in relation to me as Aaron held in relation to Moses, except that there is no prophet after me?”
