1501 — Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dāwūd narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Yahyā ⦗2034⦘ al-Sūfī narrated to us, saying: Ismāʿīl ibn Abān al-Warrāq narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muslim al-Mulāʾī informed me, from his father, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: Umm Ayman presented the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—with a roasted bird. He said, “O Allah, admit to me someone whom You love and whom I love, that he may eat with me.” ʿAlī—may Allah be pleased with him—then came and asked permission to enter. I was at the door that day, so I said, “The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—is occupied.” I wanted it to be a man of the Ansār. Then he came a second time and asked permission to enter, but he was attending to something, so ʿAlī went back. Then he came a third time, and the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—heard his voice and said, “Admit him.” He entered while it was set before him, ate some of it, and said, “O Allah, [bring him] to me as well! O Allah, [bring him] to me as well!” three times.
