1500 — Abū Muhammad Jaʿfar ibn Ahmad ibn ʿĀsim al-Dimashqī narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Musaffā narrated to us: Hafs ibn ʿUmar narrated to us, from Mūsā ibn Saʿd, from al-Hasan, from Anas, who said: A mountain bird was brought to the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and he said, “O Allah, bring me a man who loves Allah and His Messenger and whom Allah and His Messenger love.” Just then, ʿAlī—may Allah be pleased with him—knocked at the door. Anas said, “The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—is occupied.” He continued: I had hoped that it would be a man of the Ansār. Then ʿAlī came a second time, and Anas said, “The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—is occupied.” Then he came a third time, whereupon the Prophet said, “O Anas, admit him, for he is the one I meant.” The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then said, “O Allah, [bring him] to me! O Allah, [bring him] to me!”
