1476 — Abū Bakr Qāsim ibn Zakariyyā al-Mutarriz narrated to us, saying: Abd Allāh ibn Abī Ziyād narrated to us, saying: Muāwiyah ibn Hishām narrated to us, saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from Mansūr, from Hilāl ibn Yasāf, from Hayyān ibn Ghālib, who said: A man came to Saīd ibn Zayd and said, “I have come to hate Uthmān with a hatred I have never felt for anyone else.” He replied, “What an evil thing you have done! Do you hate a man who is among the people of Paradise?” . . . . He then related the account of Hirā. ⦗2005⦘
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: It is wretchedness enough for anyone who reviles Uthmān, or any of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—that he said: “Whoever reviles my Companions, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all humanity”; and that he—peace and blessings be upon him—said concerning his Companions: “Do not make them targets after I am gone. Whoever loves them does so out of love for me, and whoever hates them does so out of hatred for me. Whoever harms them has harmed me; whoever harms me has offended Allah; and whoever offends Allah, Allah may soon seize him”; and that he—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “Do not revile my Companions. By Him in whose hand is my soul, were one of you to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud, it would not equal a mudd given by one of them, nor even half of it.”
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said ⦗2006⦘: I say: One who reviles Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—does not harm Uthmān; he harms only himself. Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—was attested by the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—to be wrongfully killed as a martyr. The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—also gave Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—the glad tidings of Paradise in more than one hadith. This was narrated by Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—while Saīd ibn Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufayl—may Allah be pleased with him—narrated it from him. It was also narrated by Abd al-Rahmān ibn Awf and a group of the Companions—may Allah be pleased with them all: Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—is among the people of Paradise, to the humiliation of every hypocrite who is lowly and contemptible in this world and the Hereafter.
