1472 – Ibn Makhlad informed us: Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahmān ibn Yūnus al-Sarrāj narrated to us: Abū Ayyūb al-Dimashqī narrated to us: Abd al-Azīz ibn al-Walīd ibn Sulaymān ibn Abī al-Sā'ib narrated to us: I heard my father recount that al-Hasan ibn Alī—may Allah be pleased with them both—heard a blind man speaking about Uthmān and his offspring. Al-Hasan then spoke up for Uthmān—may Allah have mercy on him—saying:

“They say that Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—was killed when no one on earth was better than he, and no Muslim on earth possessed greater sanctity than he.”

He was told, “Yet your father was among them.” ⦗2001⦘ He replied, “Leave my father—may Allah be pleased with him—out of this. When Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—was killed, no man possessed greater sanctity among the Muslims than he did. Even if I had nothing besides what I saw in my dream, it would have sufficed me. I saw the sky split open, and there was the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—with Abū Bakr on his right and Umar on his left, while the sky rained blood. I asked, ‘What is this?’ They replied, ‘This is the blood of Uthmān; he was killed unjustly.’”
