1461 — Abū Abd Allah Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Abd al-Jabbār al-Sūfī informed us, saying: Shujā ibn Makhlad narrated to us, saying: Hushaym ibn Bashīr narrated to us, saying: Mansūr narrated to us, from Ibn Sīrīn, who said: When they entered upon Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—and killed him, Nāila bint al-Furāfisa al-Kalbiyya said, “Whether you kill him or spare him, he used to spend the entire night in prayer with a single unit, reciting the whole Quran therein.”
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: When Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—was killed, many of the Companions wept over him. Kab ibn Mālik al-Ansārī composed an elegy for him, as we have already mentioned. Some people confined themselves to their homes and did not leave them until they were carried to their graves. The jinn also wept and wailed over him.
