1452 — And Abū Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Sālih al-Bukhārī informed us. He said: Abd Allah ibn Umar al-Kūfī narrated to us. He said: Abd Allah ibn Idrīs narrated to us, from Husayn, from Amr ibn Jāwān al-Sa‘dī, from al-Ahnaf ibn Qays, who reported that Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—adjured a group of people, saying:
“I adjure you by Allah, besides whom there is no god: Do you know that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said, ‘Whoever purchases the yard belonging to the clan of so-and-so, Allah will forgive him’? I purchased it for twenty thousand or twenty-five thousand, then went to the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—and said, ‘I have purchased it.’ He said, ‘Make it part of our mosque, and its reward shall be yours.’”
They replied, “Yes, by Allah.”
He then said, “I adjure you by Allah, besides whom there is no god: Do you know that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—⦗1974⦘ said, ‘Whoever purchases the well of Rūmah, Allah will forgive him’? I purchased it for such-and-such an amount, then went to him and said, ‘I have purchased it.’ He said, ‘Make it a water supply for the Muslims, and its reward shall be yours.’”
They replied, “Yes, by Allah.”
He said, “I adjure you by Allah, besides whom there is no god: Do you know that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—looked into the faces of the people and said, ‘Whoever equips these men, Allah will forgive him’—meaning the Army of Hardship? I equipped them until not even a hobble or halter was missing.”
They replied, “Yes, by Allah.”
He then said, “O Allah, bear witness! O Allah, bear witness! O Allah, bear witness!”
