1428 — Abū Bakr Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī narrated to us: Ya'qūb ibn Ibrāhīm al-Dawraqī narrated to us: Yahyā ibn Sa'īd al-Qattān narrated to us: Ismā'īl—that is, Ibn Abī Khālid—narrated to us: Qays—that is, Ibn Abī Hāzim—narrated to us, from Abū Sahla, the freedman of Uthmān ibn Affān, from Ā'isha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “Call one of my Companions for me.” I asked, “Shall I call Abū Bakr for you?” He remained silent. I asked, “Shall I call Umar for you?” He remained silent. I asked, “Shall I call your cousin Alī for you?” He remained silent. I asked, “Shall I call Uthmān for you?” He replied, “Call him.”
When Uthmān came, he gestured to me to move aside. I then saw him speaking to Uthmān as Uthmān’s complexion—or his face—changed. She continued: When the siege of the house took place, ⦗1957⦘ he was asked, “Will you not fight?” He replied, “The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) gave me a solemn instruction, and I shall patiently abide by it.”
1429 — Abū Hafs Umar ibn Ayyūb al-Saqatī also narrated to me: Mahfūz ibn Abī Tawba narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Bishr al-Abdī narrated to us: Ismā'īl ibn Abī Khālid narrated to us, from Qays ibn Abī Hāzim, from Abū Sahla, the freedman of Uthmān (may Allah be pleased with him), from Ā'isha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said, “The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said…” and he related a similar report.
