1425 — Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dāwūd narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ubayd ibn Humayd narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Hamīd al-Himmānī narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Alā narrated to us, from al-Shabī, from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—sent me to Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—⦗1953⦘, and I gave him the glad tidings of Paradise after a trial that would befall him.

Uthmān took me by the hand and set out with me until he reached the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is this trial that will befall me? I have never sung, never lied, and never touched my private parts with my right hand since I embraced Islam—or pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Nor have I ever committed adultery, whether in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance or after Islam.”

The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said to him, “Allah—Mighty and Majestic—will surely clothe you with a garment. If the hypocrites press you to cast it off, do not cast it off.”
