the following:
146 — Abū Muhammad Yahyā ibn Muhammad ibn Sā‘id narrated to us, saying: Abū Hishām Muhammad ibn Yazīd al-Rifā‘ī narrated to us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Ayyāsh narrated to us, saying: Āsim narrated to us, from Zirr, from Abdullāh, who said: I said to a man, “Teach me to recite thirty verses from al-Ahqāf.” He taught me to recite them differently from the way the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—had taught me. I then said to another man, “Teach me to recite thirty verses from al-Ahqāf.” He taught me to recite them differently from the first man. I brought them both to the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—⦗473⦘, and he became angry. Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—was sitting with him, and Alī—may Allah honor his countenance—said, “He has said to you: ‘Recite as you were taught.’”
