1418 — Qāsim al-Mutarriz also narrated to us: Ibrāhīm ibn Abd Allāh and Ishāq ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; they said: Hammād ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from Abū Qilāba, from a man. Ishāq said: Hammād said, “He was Abū al-Ash'ath al-San'ānī.” He said, “I witnessed the speakers at the beginning of the tribulation in Syria. The last of them to rise was a man called Murra ibn Ka'b. He said, ‘Were it not for a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—I would not have risen. One day, the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—mentioned a tribulation. A man whose face was covered passed by, and he said, “This man and his companions will be upon the truth.”’ I followed him and found that he was Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him.”
