1417 — Abū Bakr Qāsim ibn Zakariyyā al-Mutarriz narrated to us: Muhammad ibn al-Muthannā narrated to us: Abd al-Wahhāb al-Thaqafī narrated to us: Ayyūb narrated to us, from Abū Qilāba, from Abū al-Ash'ath al-San'ānī, that a number of speakers rose to address the people in Syria, including some Companions of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The last of them to rise was a man called Murra ibn Ka'b. He said, “Were it not for something I heard from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—I would not have risen. He mentioned a tribulation and said that it was imminent. A man then passed by, and he said, ‘On that day, this man will be upon guidance.’ I went up to the man, turned his face toward the Messenger of Allah, and asked, ‘Is this the man?’ He replied, ‘Yes.’ It turned out to be Uthmān ibn Affān—may Allah be pleased with him.”
