1402 — And Hāmid ibn Shuayb al-Balkhī narrated to us: Mansūr ibn Abī Muzāhim narrated to us: Sharīk narrated to us, from Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr, who reported that the jinn lamented Umar ibn al-Khattāb, may Allah be pleased with him:
[Long meter]
May Allah reward you well as an imam, and may
Allah’s hand bless that torn hide.
You settled many affairs, then left behind you
mourners whose sleeves had not yet been rent.
Whoever runs—or mounts an ostrich’s wings—to overtake
what I put forth yesterday will himself be outstripped.
I never feared that his death would come
at the hands of a brazen, blue-eyed man with drooping lids.
