1391 — Abū Bakr Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Wāsitī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Rizq Allah al-Kalwadhānī narrated to us, saying: Habīb ibn Abī Habīb narrated to us, saying: Abd Allah ibn Āmir al-Aslamī narrated to us, from Ibn Shihāb, from Saīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Ubayy ibn Kab, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“Gabriel would speak with me about Umar. I said, ‘Gabriel, tell me of Umar’s virtues and what awaits him with Allah, Mighty and Majestic.’ He replied, ‘Even if I were to sit with you for as long as Noah remained among his people, I could not recount all of Umar’s virtues. And after your death, O Muhammad, Islam will surely weep over the death of Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him.’”
