I asked, ‘For whom is this palace?’ I was told, ‘For a man from among the Arabs.’ I said, ‘But I am one of the Arabs; for whom, then, is it?’ I was told, ‘For a Muslim man from the nation of Muhammad.’ I said, ‘But I am Muhammad; for whom is this palace?’ I was told, ‘For Umar ibn al-Khattāb.’” The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then said, “Had it not been for your jealousy, I would have entered the palace.” Umar replied, “O Messenger of Allah, I would never feel jealous where you are concerned.”
