1377 — Abu Bakr Qāsim ibn Zakariyyā al-Mutarriz narrated to us, saying: Abu Kurayb Muhammad ibn al-Alā narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr ibn Ayyāsh narrated to us, saying: Humayd al-Tawīl narrated to us, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“I was brought into Paradise, where a palace was raised before me. I asked, ‘For whom is this?’ They replied, ‘For a man of Quraysh.’ I thought that I was that man, so I asked, ‘Who is he?’ They replied, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb.’”
The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “Nothing kept me from entering it except regard for your protective jealousy, O Abu Hafs.”
Umar said, “Could I ever feel protective jealousy toward you, O Messenger of Allah? Was it not through you that Allah Most High elevated and guided me? And was it not through you that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, bestowed His favor upon me?” He then wept.
Abu Bakr ibn Ayyāsh said: I asked Humayd, “Was this in a dream or while awake?” He replied, “No, rather, ⦗1904⦘ while awake.”
