1368 — Abū Muhammad Abd Allāh ibn al-Abbās al-Tayālisī narrated to us: Mahmūd ibn Khidāsh narrated to us: Hushaym narrated to us: Humayd al-Tawīl informed us, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him—said:
“I concurred with my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, in three matters. I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if only you would take the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer.’ He said: Then the following was revealed: ‘Take the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer’ [al-Baqara 2:125].
“He said: I also said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, both the righteous and the wicked enter upon your wives. If only you would instruct them to observe the veil.’ He said: Then the verse of the veil was revealed.
“He said: The wives of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—banded together against him out of jealousy, so I said to them, ‘Perhaps, if he divorces you, his Lord will replace you with wives better than you. . .’ [al-Tahrīm 66:5]—to the end of the verse. He said: Then it was revealed exactly so.”
