1333 — Abū Muslim Ibrāhīm ibn Abd Allah al-Kashshī also informed us, saying: Alī ibn Abd Allah al-Madīnī narrated to us, saying: Umar ibn Sad Abū Dawūd al-Hafarī narrated to us, saying: Badr ibn Uthmān narrated to us, from Ubayd Allah ibn Marwān, who said: Abū Āisha—a man of integrity—narrated to me, from Ibn Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came out to us one morning and said:

“Before daybreak, I saw in a dream that I had been given the maqālīd and the scales. The maqālīd are these keys, while the scales are those with which people weigh.”

He continued: “I was placed in one pan, and my nation was placed in the other. I was weighed against them and outweighed them. Abū Bakr was then brought, and he outweighed them. Umar was then brought, and he outweighed them.”

And he related the rest of the hadith.
