1329 — Abū Ahmad Hārūn ibn Yūsuf narrated to us: Ibn Abī Umar narrated to us: Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Araj, who heard Abū Salama ibn Abd al-Rahmān say: I heard Abū Hurayra say:
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, led us in the dawn prayer. He then turned to face the people and said: “While a man was driving a cow, he grew weary, mounted it, and struck it. The cow said, ‘We were not created for this; we were created only to till the land.’”
The people exclaimed, “Glory be to Allah! Glory be to Allah! A cow speaking?”
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “I believe it—and so do Abū Bakr and Umar—though neither of them is here.” ⦗1862⦘
He continued: “And while a man was with his flock, a wolf fell upon one of the sheep. The owner caught up with her and rescued her from it. The wolf said, ‘Then who will look after her on the day of the beasts of prey—the day when she will have no shepherd but me?’”
The people exclaimed, “Glory be to Allah! A wolf speaking?”
The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “I believe it—and so do Abū Bakr and Umar—though neither of them is here.”
Sufyān said: Mis'ar also narrated to us, from Sa'd ibn Ibrāhīm, from Abū Salama, from Abū Hurayra, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, a report like it.
