1323 — Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dāwūd also narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Musaffā narrated to us. He said: Baqiyya ibn al-Walīd narrated to us, from Thawr ibn Yazīd, from Abd Allāh ibn Bishr al-Kindī, from Abd Allāh ibn Amr ibn al-Ās, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “I had indeed intended to send men from among my Companions to the kings of the earth to call them to Islam, just as Jesus son of Mary sent the disciples.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, why not send Abū Bakr and Umar, for they are better able to convey the message?” He replied, “I cannot dispense with them. Their standing in the religion is like that of hearing and sight in the body.”
