1297 — Abū Ahmad also narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abī Umar narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Razzāq narrated to us, saying: Mamar informed us, from al-Zuhrī, who said: Anas ibn Mālik informed me, saying:

When Monday came, the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—drew back the curtain of his chamber and saw Abū Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—leading the people in prayer. We looked upon the Prophet’s face—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and it was like a page of the Quran as he smiled. We nearly became distracted in our prayer out of joy at seeing the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Abū Bakr began to step backward, but the Prophet motioned to him, “Remain as you are.” He then lowered the curtain and died that very day.
