1291 — Al-Firyābī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn al-Sabbāh narrated to us, saying: Sufyān ibn Uyayna narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from Urwa, from Aisha—may Allah be pleased with her—that when the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—fell ill, he said, “Order someone to lead the people in prayer.” She said: Abdullah ibn Zam'a went out and met Umar. He said to him, “The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said such-and-such, so step forward and lead the people in prayer.” He went and stepped forward to lead the people. The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—heard his voice and said, “Who is this?” They replied, “Umar.” He said, “No! Allah and the believers will accept none but Abū Bakr.” Umar—may Allah be pleased with him—then said to Abdullah ibn Zam'a, “Had he not named me?” He replied, “No.” Umar rebuked him most severely and became angry with him.
