1290 โ Hฤmid ibn Shuสฟayb Abลซ al-สฟAbbฤs al-Balkhฤซ narrated to us, saying: Mansลซr ibn Abฤซ Muzฤhim narrated to us, saying: Abลซ Saสฟฤซd al-Muสพaddib narrated to us, from Yลซnus ibn Abฤซ Ishฤq, from Abลซ Ishฤq, from สฟAbd Allah ibn Masสฟลซd, who said: โAbลซ Bakrโmay Allah be pleased with himโbought Bilฤl from Umayya ibn Khalaf and Ubayy ibn Khalaf for a cloak and ten ลซqiyyas, then freed him for the sake of AllahโMighty โฆ1828โฆ and Majestic. Allah Most High then revealed: โBy the night when it covers, by the day when it shines forth, and by Him Who created male and female, surely your endeavors are diverseโ [al-Layl: 2]โmeaning the endeavors of Abลซ Bakr, Umayya, and Ubayy. โAs for the one who gives, is mindful of Allah, and affirms the finestโ [al-Layl: 5]โby affirming, โThere is no deity worthy of worship except Allahโโmeaning Abลซ Bakr; โWe shall ease his way toward easeโ [al-Layl: 7]. He said: โParadise.โ โBut as for the one who is miserly, deems himself self-sufficient, and denies the finestโ [al-Layl: 8]โโThere is no deity worthy of worship except Allahโโmeaning Umayya and Ubayy; โWe shall ease his way toward hardshipโ [al-Layl: 10]. He said: โThe Fire.โ โWhat will his wealth avail him when he falls?โ [al-Layl: 11]. He said: โWhen he dies.โ โSurely it is for Us to provide guidance, and surely to Us belong the Hereafter and the present life. So I have warned you of a blazing Fire, in which none will burn except the most wretchedโthe one who denied and turned awayโ [al-Layl: 12]โmeaning Umayya and Ubayy. โBut the most mindful will be kept away from itโthe one who gives his wealth to purify himselfโ [al-Layl: 17]โmeaning Abลซ Bakr โฆ1829โฆ. โNo one has any favor with him that is to be repaidโ [al-Layl: 19]. He said: โAbลซ Bakr did not do this because of any favor Bilฤl had done him, such that he was repaying him for it. Rather, he sought only the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High, and he will surely be pleasedโ [al-Layl: 20].โ
Muhammad ibn al-Husaynโmay Allah have mercy on himโsaid: Everything we have mentioned above indicates that AllahโGlorious is His Majestyโsingled out Abลซ Bakrโmay Allah be pleased with himโfor certain distinctions by which He favored him over every one of the Companionsโmay Allah be pleased with them all.
