1275 — Abū Bakr Qāsim ibn Zakariyyā al-Mutarriz reported to us: Hātim ibn al-Layth al-Jawharī reported to us: Muallā ibn Asad al-Ammī reported to us: Hilāl ibn Abd al-Rahmān al-Azdī reported to us: Alī ibn Zayd and Atā ibn Abī Maymūna reported to us, on the authority of Anas ibn Mālik, on the authority of Abū Bakr al-Siddīq—may Allah be pleased with him—who said:

“On the night in the cave, I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, let me enter before you, so that if there is anything harmful inside, it will strike me instead.’ Abū Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—then entered. He felt around the cave with his hand and tore up his garment. Whenever he found a hole in the cave, he stuffed a piece of his garment into it. He continued until he had used his entire garment, but one hole remained, so he placed his heel over it and said, ‘O ⦗1814⦘ Messenger of Allah, enter the cave.’

“The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—entered. When morning came, he asked, ‘Abū Bakr, where is your garment?’ I told him what I had done. The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then raised his hand and said, ‘O Allah, place Abū Bakr with me at my rank on the Day of Resurrection.’ Allah then revealed to him, ‘I have answered your prayer.’”

Anas said, “The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—would enter Abū Bakr’s home as though it were his own, and he would use Abū Bakr’s wealth just as he used his own.”
