1274 — Abū Ahmad Hārūn ibn Yūsuf also narrated to us. He said: Ibn Abī ʿUmar narrated to us. He said: Sufyān narrated to us. He said: I heard Ibn al-Munkadir say: I heard Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allah say ⦗1812⦘—Sufyān said: I also heard ʿAmr ibn Dīnār narrate from Muhammad ibn ʿAlī, who said: I heard Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allah; each of the two added details not mentioned by the other—he said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “If the wealth of Bahrain were to arrive, I would give you this much, this much, and this much,” gesturing with both hands together.

The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—passed away before the wealth of Bahrain arrived. It then came to Abū Bakr after his death, so he instructed a herald to proclaim, “Whoever was given a promise by the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—or is owed a debt by him, let him come to me.” I stood up and said, “The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, ‘If the wealth of Bahrain were to arrive, I would give you this much, this much, and this much.’” Abū Bakr then scooped up a handful once and said to me, “Count it.” I counted it, and it amounted to five hundred dirhams. He said, “Take twice as much again.”
