1266 — Al-Firyābī also narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Musaffā al-Himsī narrated to us, saying: Baqiyya ibn al-Walīd narrated to us, saying: Bahīr ibn Sa‘d narrated to us, from Khālid ibn Ma‘dān, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, who reported that some doors had been left open into the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him. He ordered them closed, except for the door of Abū Bakr. They said, “The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—ordered our doors closed, except for the door of Abū Bakr, his intimate friend.” When this reached him, he stood among them and said, “Are you saying, ‘He closed our doors and left open the door of his intimate friend’? Had I an intimate friend among you, he would have been my intimate friend. But I am the intimate friend of Allah—Almighty and Majestic. Will you not leave my companion to me? He supported me with his person and his wealth; he said in my defense, ‘He spoke the truth,’ whereas you said, ‘He lied.’”
