1245 – Abū Bakr Qāsim ibn Zakariyyā al-Mutarriz narrated to us: Imrān ibn al-Hasan al-Shāmī narrated to us: Abd al-Rahmān ibn Mughr al-Dawsī narrated to us: Mujālid narrated to us, from al-Sha'bī, who said: Ibn Abbās—may Allah be pleased with them both—was asked, “Who was the first to embrace Islam?” He replied, “Abū Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him. Have you not heard the words of Hassān ibn Thābit—may Allah be pleased with him?”

“When sorrow for a trusted brother comes to mind,
remember your brother Abū Bakr and what he did.

Creation’s best, its most God-fearing and excellent—
save the Prophet—and most worthy of the burden he bore.

The second, the follower, praiseworthy in character,
and of all people, the first to affirm the Messenger’s truth.”
