1219 — Abū Abd Allāh al-Husayn ibn Muhammad ibn Ufayr al-Ansārī informed us: Ishāq ibn Dāwūd al-Qantarī, the righteous servant, reported to us: Al-Hasan ibn al-Rabī reported to us: Saīd ibn Abd al-Ghaffār reported to us: Ibn Lahīa reported to us, from Abd Allāh ibn Hubayra, from Abd ibn Zurayr al-Ghāfiqī, who said:

We visited Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—on the day of Eid al-Adhā or Eid al-Fitr, and he served us khazīra. I said, “O Commander of the Faithful, if only you had served us some of these geese and ducks, for Allah—Mighty and Majestic—has bestowed abundant bounty!”

Alī ⦗1764⦘—may Allah be pleased with him—replied, “I heard the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—say: ‘Only two dishes from the Muslims’ wealth are lawful for the caliph: one from which he and his household eat, and another for his companions.’”

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn said: I have related enough about the caliphate of the Commander of the Faithful, Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—the fourth caliph, to suffice anyone who understands, and to increase the believers’ love for Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—whom none but a believer loves and none but a hypocrite hates, just as the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said.
