1218 — Al-Firyābī also reported to us: Qutayba ibn Saīd reported to us: Hārūn ibn Muslim ibn Hurmuz reported to us, from his father, that Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—“gave the people three allotments in a single year. He said: Then the land-tax revenue of Isfahan arrived for him. He praised and extolled Allah, then said, ‘O people, come tomorrow morning and receive the fourth allotment, for, by Allah, I am not your treasurer.’ So he distributed it among them. He then ordered the treasury to be swept and sprinkled with water, performed two units of prayer there, and said, ‘O worldly life, beguile someone other than me.’”
