1212 — Al-Firyābī narrated to us: Qutayba ibn Saīd narrated to us: Abd Allah ibn Idrīs narrated to us, from Shuba, from Abd al-Malik ibn Maysara, from al-Nazzāl ibn Sabra al-Hilālī, who said:

“There was no sermon delivered by Abd Allah ibn Masūd that I did not attend. I was therefore present with him ⦗1754⦘ when the death of Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him—was announced. He mentioned Uthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—and said, ‘We appointed the best of those who remained to lead us, and we were not remiss in our choice.’”
