1206 — Abū Bakr Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī also narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Rizq Allah al-Kalwadhānī narrated to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Ishāq al-Sālihīnī narrated to us, saying: Salama ibn al-Aswad narrated to us, saying: Abū Abd al-Rahmān informed me, saying: Alī ibn Abī Tālib (may Allah be pleased with him) went in to see Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), who lay covered with his garment ⦗1744⦘. He said, “Of all people, the record of deeds I would most wish to have when I meet Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is that of this man lying covered before you.” He then said, “May Allah have mercy on you, Ibn al-Khattāb. You were truly deeply knowledgeable about the ordinances of Allah, and Allah was indeed supremely great in your heart. You feared Allah in your dealings with people and did not fear people in matters concerning Allah, Mighty and Majestic. You were generous where truth was concerned and sparing where falsehood was concerned. You partook sparingly of this world and abundantly of the Hereafter. You were neither a faultfinder nor a flatterer.”
