: Abū Bakr al-Siddīq (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke the truth. How could Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) not have been so regarded by him when the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “Had there been a prophet after me, it would have been Umar ibn al-Khattāb”? The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) also said, “Follow the two who come after me: Abū Bakr and Umar.”

Alī ibn Abī Tālib (may Allah honor his countenance) said, “We did not consider it unlikely that tranquility came to rest upon Umar’s tongue.” Alī (may Allah be pleased with him) also said, “Umar was a servant sincerely devoted to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, so Allah favored him in return.”

Alī ibn Abī Tālib (may Allah honor his countenance) gave his daughter Umm Kulthūm in marriage to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was killed while she was still his wife.

Alī ibn Abī Tālib (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) came first, Abū Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came second, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came third.” That is, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) came first in virtue, Abū Bakr came second after him in virtue, and Umar came third after them in virtue.

Ibn Masūd (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “When Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) embraced Islam, the polytheists said, ‘The Muslims have now become our equals in strength.’ Umar’s acceptance of Islam was a source of might, his emigration was a victory, and his caliphate was a mercy. By Allah, we could not pray openly until Umar embraced Islam. I believe that between Umar’s eyes (may Allah have mercy on him) there is an angel who guides him aright. When the righteous are mentioned, hasten to speak of Umar!”
