1198 — Abū al-Fadl al-Abbās ibn Alī ibn al-Abbās al-Nasā’ī narrated to us, saying ⦗1733⦘: Mushrif ibn Saīd al-Wāsitī narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Dāwūd Abū Saīd narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Yazīd al-Wāsitī narrated to us, from Ismāīl ibn Abī Khālid, from Zirr, from Abd Allah ibn Masūd, who said:

“The Ansār changed their position on the day of the portico of Banū Sāida because of something Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: ‘Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) put Abū Bakr forward to lead the people in prayer?’

“They replied, ‘Yes, by Allah.’

“He asked, ‘Which of you would be content to put himself ahead of Abū Bakr?’

“They replied, ‘None of us would be content to do so. We seek forgiveness from Allah, Mighty and Majestic.’”
