1185 — Abu Bakr Qāsim ibn Zakariyyā al-Mutarriz narrated to us, saying: Ammār ibn al-Hasan and Muhammad ibn Humayd al-Rāzī narrated to us, saying: Abu Tumayla—namely, Yahyā ibn Wādih—narrated to us, saying: Nāfi ibn Umar narrated to us, from Ibn Abī Mulayka, who said: A man addressed Abu Bakr, saying, “O Allah’s caliph!” He replied, “I am not Allah’s caliph; rather, I am the successor to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).”
