1134 — Ibn Ufair also informed us, saying: Shuayb narrated to us, saying: al-Awfi the judge narrated to me from his father and al-Hasan ibn Umāra, both of whom narrated from his grandfather, Atiyya al-Awfi, from Abū Saīd al-Khudrī, who said:
The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “Whoever loves me will, out of love for me, love the Ansar; and whoever hates me will, out of hatred for me, hate the Ansar. No hypocrite loves them, and no believer hates them. Whoever loves them, Allah loves him; and whoever hates them, Allah hates him. The people are an outer garment, while the Ansar are the garment next to the skin. If the Ansar took one valley and the people took another, I would take the valley of the Ansar. Were it not for the Emigration, I would be a man of the Ansar. O Allah, forgive ⦗1654⦘ the Ansar, the sons of the Ansar, and the sons of the sons of the Ansar. Indeed, Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—chose their home as the abode in which His religion would be given might, and chose them as supporters for His Prophet. By Allah, no sacred law was ever ordained for Allah, no sunnah instituted for Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—no duty made obligatory for Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—no Friday congregation convened for Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—and men never stood shoulder to shoulder in prayer except in their dwellings, in their midst, and by means of their swords.”
