1133 — Abū Abd Allah al-Husayn ibn Muhammad ibn Ufair al-Ansārī informed us, saying: Shuayb ibn Salama ibn Mahmūd ibn al-Ashath ibn Rifāa ibn Rāfi ibn Khadīj al-Ansārī—Rāfi ibn Khadīj being a Companion of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—narrated to us, saying: Abū Zakariyyā Yahyā ibn Abd Allah ibn Yazīd al-Ansārī narrated to us, from Rubayh ibn Abd al-Rahmān ibn Abī Saīd al-Khudrī, who related it from his father, from his grandfather, who said:

The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was seated in Mecca among a gathering of the Emigrants and the Ansar. A man called Razīn—or Ibn Razīn—came and asked, “Who is Sad ibn Ubāda?” The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—raised his head toward him in anger and said, “Do not harm the Ansar. Whoever harms them has harmed me; whoever supports them has supported me; whoever loves them has loved me; whoever ⦗1653⦘ hates them has hated me; whoever wrongs them has wronged me; and whoever fulfills a need for them, I shall be swifter to attend to his need on the Day of Resurrection.”

Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him—asked, “Does this apply to Sad specifically, or to the Ansar in general?” The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—replied, “Rather, it applies to the Ansar in general, to their descendants, and to their descendants’ descendants, forever and ever.”
