Al-Shariah li-al-AjurriAl-Ajurri

1120 — Mūsā ibn Hārūn narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abbād narrated to us, saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from Ibn Judʿān, who heard Anas say: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him—knew that a mountain pass was safer than a valley, so he said, “If the Ansar were to take a mountain pass while the people took a valley, I would take the mountain pass of the Ansar. Were it not for the Emigration, I would be one of the Ansar. Accept from those among them who do good and overlook those among them who do wrong. The Ansar are my trusted confidants and my own people. Are you not content for the people to depart with sheep and camels while you depart with the Messenger of Allah—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him?”

He then said, “Indeed, had you ⦗1644⦘ wished, you could have said: ‘You came to us as an outcast, and we gave you refuge; the people forsook you, and we supported you.’” They wept and said, “Allah and His Messenger have bestowed the favor upon us.”
