1107 — Abū Saʿīd Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyād al-Shāhid narrated to us, saying: al-Hasan ibn ʿAffān al-Kūfī narrated to us, saying: Abū Usāma narrated to us, from Abū ʿUthmān, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Kathīr, from Mujāhid, concerning the words of Allah, majestic and exalted: “And during part of the night, pray with it as an additional devotion for you” [al-Isrā: 79]. He said: “An additional devotion belonged to no one except the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, specifically, because his past and future sins had been forgiven. Thus, any deed he performed in addition to the obligatory acts was an additional devotion for him, beyond what was obligatory, since he did not act to expiate sins. Other people, however, perform deeds beyond the obligatory acts as expiation for their sins. Thus, other people have no additional devotions; they belong only to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.” ⦗1620⦘
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, may Allah have mercy on him, said: The distinctions granted to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, are numerous. Praise be to Allah in this world and the Hereafter. Allah, majestic and exalted, has promised that He will grant him such honors in the Hereafter that he will be satisfied. This is stated in His words, majestic and exalted: “Your Lord will surely give to you, and you will be satisfied” [al-Duhā: 5].
