1096 — Abū Muhammad ibn Sāʿid also narrated to us, saying: Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿīd al-Jawharī and Zuhayr ibn Muhammad narrated to us—the wording is Zuhayr’s. He said: ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn al-Mubārak informed us, saying: al-Saʿq ibn Hazn narrated to us, from ʿAlī ibn al-Hakam, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmayr, from Abū ⦗1608⦘ Wā’il, from Ibn Masʿūd, from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—who said: “I shall indeed stand that day at the Praiseworthy Station.”
A hypocrite then said to a young man of the Ansār, “Ask him what the Praiseworthy Station is.” He asked him, and he replied:
“It is on the Day when Allah—Blessed and Exalted—descends upon His Footstool, which creaks beneath Him just as an iron saddle creaks. It is as broad as the distance between heaven and earth. You will be brought forth naked and barefoot, and the first to be clothed will be Abraham—peace be upon him. Allah—Mighty and Majestic—will say, ‘Clothe My intimate friend.’ He will be given two white garments from the garments of Paradise. I shall then be clothed immediately after him and stand at the right of Allah—Mighty and Majestic—at a Praiseworthy Station for which all the former and latter generations will envy me. A river from al-Kawthar will flow for me to my Basin.”
The hypocrite said, “Never until today have I heard anything like this! Few rivers ever flow except over mud and pebbles. Ask him what this river flows over.” He replied, “It flows over mud made of musk and pebbles.”
The hypocrite said, “Never until today have I heard anything like this! Rarely does a river flow without vegetation.” The Ansārī said, “O Messenger of Allah, does that river have vegetation?” He replied, “Yes.” He asked, “What is it?” He replied, “Stalks of gold.”
He said, “Ask him whether those stalks bear fruit.” He replied, “Yes—pearls and jewels.”
He said, “Ask him about the drink of the Basin.” The Ansārī asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is the drink of the Basin?” He replied, “It is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever Allah—Mighty and Majestic—gives a single drink from it will never thirst thereafter, while whoever is denied it ⦗1609⦘ will never have his thirst quenched thereafter.”
