1091 — Abū al-Qāsim ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-‘Azīz al-Baghawī also informed us, saying: Muhammad ibn Sulaymān Luwayn narrated to us, saying: Ismā‘īl ibn Zakariyyā narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn ‘Awn, from ‘Ikrima, from Ibn ‘Abbās, regarding the words of Allah—Mighty and Majestic—“Indeed, We have granted you al-Kawthar” [al-Kawthar: 1]. He said: “It is a river in Paradise, seventy thousand parasangs deep. Its water is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey, and its two banks are made of pearls, emeralds, and rubies. Allah—Mighty and Majestic—singled out His Prophet Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—with it, to the exclusion of the other prophets—peace be upon them.”
